Promoting health through movement

Welcome to Pilates Norfolk Ltd.

My name is Krystyna Doherty and I specialise in mat based Pilates for healthy active clients (of all ages) and also for clients with injuries and medical issues.

I am a Level 3 Advanced Pilates Instructor (with Body Control Pilates www.bodycontrolpilates.com) am one of a small number of Pilates Teachers in Norfolk to qualify as a Level 4 Specialist Exercise Instructor in the Management of Low Back Pain.

I am also qualified to take GP referrals, am recognized as a Back Care Professional by the Charity Backcare www.backcare.org.uk and certified as a Back4Good® practitioner.

I offer Pilates classes to a group basis or one to one sessions are available if you prefer. Please see my timetable page for more information.

I run classes in 3 warm, clean, light and airy venues in Norfolk:

  • Ipswich Road United Reformed Church, Norwich
  • Toftwood Methodist Church, Chapel Lane, Toftwood, Dereham
  • Brisley Village Hall
     

I supply mats/cushions and the small equipment you will be using in your class.

 

What is Body Control Pilates?

Body Control Pilates is renowned as a world-leading education provider for Pilates teaching. Its education curriculum is internationally renowned and it is the largest professional Pilates organisation outside the USA.

It offers a comprehensive programme of exercises adapted from the ‘classical’ exercises developed by Joseph Pilates. In order for someone to work safely and effectively and to gain the full benefits of Pilates, these classical exercises are broken down to establish good movement skills.

It is remarkably effective and medically approved. Central to the Method is ‘awareness of your own body’ and each and every exercise is built around its eight basic principles: Relaxation, Concentration, Co-ordination, Alignment, Breathing, Stamina, Flowing Movements.

By working on the deep architectural structure of the body ‘core stability’ is achieved and then maintained through increasingly complex movement sequences. Specific problem-areas can be targeted by an exercise, but always in relation to the rest of one's body.

Your body awareness is heightened by bringing together mind and body - Body Control Pilates literally teaches you to be in control of your body, allowing you to handle stress more effectively and achieve relaxation more easily. The Body Control Pilates Method can work for everyone, regardless of fitness level!
